Just like damage to the colored paint on your car, repair of paint-film failure / damage / degradation requires proper removal and/or surface preparation along with respray using products, equipment, skills, and in a clean environment of the sort few DIYer's possess. IMO / IME there is no DIY 'shortcut clear coat repair' that will last any meaningful time at all or look worth a darn after a relatively short time (if ever).Ĭlear coat is just another layer of paint that happens to be clear (lacking pigment). If the colored layer of paint on your car were peeling would you be asking how to 'fix' that yourself? Clear coat is no different.
